Navan and Cheltenham

It’s Troytown Chase day and we have an army of horses heading to Navan and one runner across the water in Cheltenham.

Over in Cheltenham ST FAZ is our sole runner in the 2 mile handicap chase. A close 5th in a 2 mile contest in Down Royal on the 31st October, he’s capable of running a competitive race under Sean Bowen provided he handles the ground conditions.

Our first runners of the day in Navan are in the 3yo maiden hurdle. BARBIZON is a new recruit for the Gigginstown House Stud team. Previously in training with John Joseph Murphy where he was 2 from 4 on the flat, he was purchased privately and will be having his first start over hurdles. He’s been schooling well at home and we will learn plenty about him today. Danny Gilligan rides. WACKESTONE is having his second start over flights. Fourth on his debut behind Sopelana who has scored again since, he will have improved plenty for the experience and should run a big race today under Jack Kennedy.

Bective Stud are represented by two in the mares maiden hurdle. COOL NATIVE is another new recruit who joined us from the point to point ranks. Making her hurdling debut, we’re expecting her to go well under Jack Kennedy. ISITRAININGINPARIS is a homebred filly out of Hayabusa, making her a half sister to Grade 1 winner Grangeclare West. She makes her racecourse debut and will come on plenty for her first run. Jake Coen rides.

In the Gaeil Colmcille GAA Kells ‘Day At The Races’ Handicap Hurdle we send out TRUCKERS CRUISING. He was unlucky to fall at the last in Fairyhouse back in October but is none the worse after that fall. Ground conditions might be a concern here today but Paddy Cleary is booked to ride and takes a valuable 7lb off his back.

In the Grade 3 Monksfield Novice Hurdle we saddle 2 runners. KALYPSO’CHANCE was second on hurdling debut at Down Royal last time out and steps up in not only company but distance as well in this 2m4f contest. He was a smart bumper horse last season and should have come on from his seasonal reappearance. Jack Kennedy rides. BLUE WATERS was well held in a Grade 3 mares novice hurdle the last day but tries her hand at a step up in trip for the first time. She also have the benefit of a mares allowance here. Sam Ewing rides. Ma Jacks Hill and Theflyingking are non runners.

We saddle 4 runners in the Bar One Racing Tara Handicap Hurdle. SA FUREUR sits at the top of the weights. Unplaced on his last 3 starts over hurdles, he does tend to perform well at Navan having finished second in this contest just 12 months ago and he’s only rated 2lb higher here today. It’s a great ride for Josh Halford to get and he claims a valuable 7lb. CLODDERS DREAM failed to make an impression when stepped up in trip to 3 miles so should be better suited by the distance today. Carl Millar rides and takes a useful 5lb off his back. GRINGO D’AUBRELLE switches back to hurdles after a stint over fences. His last run over hurdles saw him finish 2nd in a Grade 2 novice hurdle and this will be his first run in handicap company. Off a mark of 120, he could run a big race under Danny Gilligan. GRIMAUD has dropped down in the handicap to a career low mark of 118 and back on softer ground conditions we expect a good run from him under Jack Kennedy.

In the feature race, the Troytown Handicap Chase, we send out 7 runners. PIED PIPER has been placed in his last two starts since falling in the Kerry National. He has a touch of class about him and will hopefully show a better account of himself in this big field handicap with Josh Williamson onboard claiming 7lb. FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU is the pick of Jack Kennedy. A winner on his penultimate start over 3m2f, he has been placed in a Grand National Trial and Grade 3 novice chase and is a proven stayer. SEARCH FOR GLORY was second in the Florida Pearl novice chase last season and is a proven mud lover. Danny Gilligan takes the ride. WHERE IT ALL BEGAN was a Grand National trial winner on heavy ground back in 2024. His form tapered off last season but he still holds plenty of ability and is the mount of Sam Ewing. WILL DO has the benefit of a run under his belt this season when finishing 7th in the Munster National. He’s come on for the run and is the mount of Josh Halford who claims a valuable 7lb. FORTUNEDEFORTUNATA pulled up earlier in the month in the Cork National but has proven form on softer ground than what he contested that day. He wears first time cheekpieces and will be ridden by Jake Coen who partnered him to win a Grand National trail last season. BEAUFORT SCALE snuck in at the bottom of the weights. A proven stayer, he was second in Cheltenham at the October meeting when staying on strongly up the hill. Sporting first time cheekpieces, he will be ridden by Michael Kenneally who is valuable 7lb claimer.

In the beginners chase Ballybow is a non runner but we still run 3 other hopefuls. LUCKY LYREEN makes his introduction to fences. He has form on testing ground conditions over hurdles and will come on for his seasonal reappearance under Danny Gilligan. MY TRUMP CARD has had two starts over fences to date where his jumping let him down. He has been schooling plenty at home and we hopefully show a much better account of himself today with Sam Ewing in the plate. WINGMEN was a winner of his sole point to point start and looks like he could make a big impact over fences under rules. A very useful hurdler, he has class about him and should be a leading market contender here under Jack Kennedy.

Our final runner of the day is OLDSCHOOL OUTLAW in the listed mares bumper. Placed in two point to points and second on her bumper debut, she ran a credible race to finish 7th in the Grade 2 mares bumper at Aintree for Garry Caldwell. This is her first start since joining us and she’s been showing us all the right signs at home. Harry Swan rides.
