Galway day 4

We came close yesterday to having another Galway winner but we were delighted to see Jordan Gainford claim the Galway plate. It is so deserved and it was great to see the hard work pay off.

Galway has a slightly earlier start today and we have two runners in the beginners chase, CALAGOGO and FAKIERA. Fakiera shaped well the last day over fences when he came 2nd to Il Courra in Limerick. He has been freshened to come here and will be ridden by Jack Kennedy. Calagogo was a faller the last day in Clonmel and also ran in the same chase as Fakiera where he finished 8th. He will be eligible for handicaps after this and has Jordan Gainford in the saddle.

CALL ME LYREEN looks to have escaped the wrath of the handicapper now that he is back in Graded company. He seems to have a good affinity with chasing and will be ridden by Jack Kennedy.

For the Novice hurdle we have SALVADOR ZIGGY and THE FRIDAY MAN. The Friday man has been on a roll as of late scoring on his last two starts. This will be a big step up so hopefully he can handle it with Jack Kennedy in the saddle. Another horse to win his last two starts is Salvador Ziggy who will have the guidance of Davy Russell. He carries slightly more due to his age but hopefully he can go well.

For the Galway hurdle we have five runners. Unfortunately Party Central is a non runner. FELIX DESJY ran well the last day to follow up his Punchestown win with a 4th placed finish. It will be a big effort from top weight but Jack Kennedy takes the ride. VINA ARDANZA still has age on his side as a very young horse on the up. He could have a big run in him and Jordan Gainford takes the ride. TOP BANDIT had an awful lot to do when given the County Hurdle as his first handicapping assignment. Kevin Sexton has been booked to ride. THE TIDE TURNS came home lame after his last run so has excuses for that. He has first time cheekpieces and Sam Ewing in the saddle. Finally at the bottom of the weights we have GLAN who has excuses for her last two runs. She is a high class filly and will have Luke Dempsey on to do the weight.

Finally in the bumper we have ISLAND MCCOO. By the same sire as yesterday’s Galway plate winner: Virtual. This horse is certainly one who could have a long and fruitful career. It is a hot bumper to start with but he is owned by a Galway local so the trip will be well worth it and Harry Swan has been booked to ride and claims 7lbs.
