Downpatrick & Killarney

We send out 10 runners today between Downpatrick & Killarney.

Kicking off the afternoon in Downpatrick, our first runner is COOL NATIVE in the mares maiden hurdle. She has solid placed efforts in maiden hurdles to date and looks one of the leading contenders. She sports a first time tongue tie and will be ridden by Jack Kennedy.

We send two down to post in the Colts & Geldings Maiden Hurdle. FUUSLAND showed greenness when departing at the first on debut last week. We’re hoping for a clear round of jumping from him today under Danny Gilligan. DIRECT APPROACH is having his second start over hurdles. Well held in a 3yo hurdle back in December, we’d like to think he’ll appreciate the better ground conditions today. Jack Kennedy rides.

In the 2m2f handicap hurdle we run SNEDDY EDDIE. He ran a solid race to finish 5th on handicap debut last time out and holds each way claims here under Jack Kennedy.

SAN HILARIO drops back in to maiden company again after a string of placed efforts in handicaps and maidens. Well held when last seen in the Albert Bartlett Series Final at the Punchestown Festival, he is fresh from a summer break and looks to bring some of the strongest form to the table. Jack Kennedy rides.

We are double handed in the Rated Novice Hurdle. PLAYTIME is a consistent horse for connections. He was second to Switch From Diesel in a novice hurdle two runs back before finishing 7th in a handicap last time out. A strong contender here under Jack Kennedy. LEMMY CAUTION was a winner of his maiden two runs back when he landed a 3 mile contest at Punchestown on good ground. He didn’t quite run up to par next time out when he was sporting first time blinkers so we have put cheekpieces on him instead today. Sam Ewing rides.

BOSTON BEACH returns to action in the 2m6f handicap hurdle. Last seen in December 2024, he will come on plenty for the having his first run back after a lay off and is the mount of Danny Gilligan.

In the bumper we run BE MY FORTUNE. A new recruit to the yard. He was placed on his debut point to point and looks to have enough ability to hold his own under rules. Tommy Halford takes the ride and claims a useful 7lb.

Our final runner of the day is ARCH EMPIRE in the QR Maiden in Killarney. He has three good runs in maidens on the flat last year and was third in this race 12 months ago. If he can replicate that run he should go close again today under Harry Swan.
