It’s a busy day for the team as we head to Listowel for the Kerry National and across the water to Perth for Day 1 of their 2 day meeting.
Our first runner of the day in Listowel is ARCH EMPIRE in the novice hurdle. He’s been mixing it between the flat and hurdles throughout the summer months and although Davy Crockett looks the stand out horse in the race, we’re hoping Arch Empire can show a good account of himself under Jack Kennedy.
In the 3m handicap hurdle we saddle CINAMMON ROLL. A dual winner over hurdles this summer, we have stepped him up to 3 miles for the first time today. He should appreciate the trip and will have the benefit of Paddy Cleary’s 7lb claim.
We send 4 to post in the feature race, the Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase. PIED PIPER has taken to the chasing game well. He has won 3 out of his 4 starts over fences to date and has his first start in handicap company today. He should relish the trip and Josh Williamson claims a useful 7lb. THREE CARD BRAG is the pick of Jack Kennedy. He ran a big race in the Galway Plate after being hampered badly at the start and has proven himself over this trip when winning in Navan last season. SHECOULDBEANYTHING is a model of consistency. She was third last time out in the Galway Plate and cant be discounted. Jordan Gainford rides. DUFFLE COAT has dropped down a few pounds in the handicap after his last few outings. If the ground continues to dry he is capable of running a big race under Sam Ewing.
Our final runner of the day in Listowel is SPECULATRIX in the mares novice chase. A winner last time out on just her second start over fences, she is against tougher opposition today but looks more than capable of being involved at the business end. Jack Kennedy takes the ride.
Across the water in Perth our first runner is ETERNAL ECHO in the novice hurdle. Third in a flat maiden at Clonmel on his first star back this season, he should be one of the leading market fancies in todays contest. Danny Gilligan takes the ride.
WHISPERING HOPES bids to get off the mark over hurdles. She’s shown plenty of promise, especially on her last two outings, and will be the mount of Danny Gilligan.
We saddle two runners on the handicap chase. MARS HARPER will find this less competitive that some of his previous engagements and has the benefit of Benjamin Macey’s 7lb claim. YEATS STAR is back over fences today and was unlucky to be carried out of the race by a loose horse on his last start in Galway over hurdles. We think there is plenty of improvement to come from him over fences and Danny Gilligan takes the ride.
