Punchestown and Cork Sunday

We managed to score a stunning four timer yesterday in Punchestown and that is all credit to our great team!

Today we head back to Kildare and hopefully we’ll have some similar luck!

For the opening race, the Risk of Thunder banks race we have DELTA WORK. This is a very important steppingstone on his journey to Cheltenham and hopefully further. It is a very hard race to win and there are plenty of talented runners in this. We have Jack Kennedy on board.

For the 3yo hurdle we have CALICO who has been running very consistently and this looks like a good open contest where hopefully she can put in another good performance for connections.

For the 0-140 handicap chase we have FAKIERA and DUNBOYNE who are both trying handicap chasing here. Both are excellent stayers over hurdles but have yet to flourish over the bigger obstacles. Jack rides Fakiera and Jordan is on Dunboyne.

For the Florida Pearl we have MINELLA CROONER who should be able to stand to these but is thrown in the deep end on chase debut. He was a winner of his point to point so he has some experience over fences but this looks open now with a few non-runners. Jack takes the ride.

The Morgiana has cut into a small enough field and we send TEAHUPOO forward. We will want every ml of rain to stay in the ground for this horse as he loves testing conditions. It looks another great renewal and hopefully we can have a bit of luck.

In the maiden hurdle over 2m we have A FORTUNE OUT WEST, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and WILL DO. A fortune out west was a bit disapointing at the end of last season but has been given time to grow and strengthen. He will be ridden by Sam Ewing. Happy Birthday is the pick of Jordan Gainford and has only run once having pulled up. This should be a better performance from the son of Crillion today. Jack’s pick is the new recruit Will Do. He is a beautiful big horse who has come from the pointing field and should really thrive once put over bigger obstacles in time.

The Pertemps qualifier is next and we have FLOUEUR, JAYCEAN and COVENTRY. They have changed the rules this year meaning you have to finish in the top four to qualify for Cheltenham making these races much more competitive. It looks a very good bunch of horses in this race so it should be a good race. Floueur switches back to hurdles and has Denis O’Regan on board. Jaycean is the pick of Sam Ewing and Coventry will be ridden by Jack Kennedy.

Finally foe Punchestown in the bumper we have the very handsome CATO CAPONE. This striking grey has run once in a point to point to come home second. This looks a very competitive race and will hopefully be a good one to round off a great two days.

Over in Cork we kick things off with IRISH POINT in the maiden hurdle over 2m. This looks a very smart horse and he should be able to put in a good run against this big field. Davy Russell has been booked to ride.

The next race is another maiden hurdle but this time for 5yos. We have ITSWHATUNITESUS who has the hood fitted again. He was a good second the last day and will have Davy Russell in the saddle.

For the handicap hurdle for 4yos we have RIAAN who hasn’t really put in a bad run yet and this seems the natural progression for him. Davy rides.

The mares beginners chase is a small but very nice field of mares. HAPPY D’EX won’t get a penalty kick here but she is a lovely scopey mare and we hope she can run well here with Davy booked to ride.
